Different Varieties of OBD Scan Tools

On-board diagnostics (OBD) tool is a feature that enables a vehicle to self-diagnose itself and report any problem found to either the car owner or technician. It was introduced in the early 1980s, using on-board vehicle computers. In those days, the OBD tools would only give a warning in case of a problem detected, without specifying the problem's nature. Currently, they have been redesigned and provide the real data about the problem as well as giving diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) which allow the owner to easily identify and fix the problem in the vehicle. This has enabled drivers to repair their own vehicles without the help from repair technicians.

Among the modern car OBD tools is Mercedes Benz – MB Star C3. This is a tool designed for Benz cars. It weighs about 5kg and is compatible with all computers which conveniences all customers, as opposed to the previous ones which could only work with the IBM T30. MB Star C3 can also be used in Benz trucks, as it has passed the truck test. It has code readers and scanners that reads and erases diagnostic trouble codes, enabling you to identify and rectify the problem instantly. It's also used for vehicle component testing and for getting data about the state of the vehicle.

The T300 Key Programmer is another tool used for programming keys. In case of a lost car key, it can program the copy key and help you access the car. It is about 3.5 kg and performs numerous functions in a car. It can read and erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) enabling you to repair your vehicle yourself. It is very easy to use and can be upgraded depending on the vehicle. It reads mechanical key data and program new keys into the engine control unit when keys are lost. Significantly, it reads and writes new emergency access codes which come in handy during emergency situations.

MS300 OBD2 is another generation of OBD tools. It is easy to use and very economical, allowing you to identify diagnostic trouble codes for all kinds of cars. It can read problems for all trouble codes, whether generic or manufacturer-generated. Most significantly, it does not depend on the car batteries to power its electrical system. It uses a removable OBD2 cable to power itself. With MS300 OBD2, you can retrieve all vehicle information including Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), Calibration Verification Number (CVN) used to check if the vehicle's software is in the right quality.

OBD2 vehicles are also installed with a MS300 Scan Tool, which is compatible with all on-board diagnostic II vehicles, ranging from saloon cars, trucks and pickups. It retrieves all diagnostic trouble codes and displays their meanings on a backlit liquid crystal display (LCD) screen. The screen is easy to read and comes with a standard pin-connector, not requiring any added cable. MS300 Scan Tool supports all Control Area Network protocols compatible with OBD2 cars, and retrieves vehicle details whenever required such as the Vehicle ID. Use these tools to effectively diagnose your car's engine problems.
